Parent Skills
Training
No one receives a manual when his or her child
is born. Yes, there is still Dr. Spock and
other experts, but their advice is often
contradictory or difficult to follow. It may be
that the expertise already exists in the
individual parent or in the collective wisdom of
a group of parents. If not, the psychologist or
other professional providing training and
guidance can give bewildered parents the benefit
of what the scientific literature has to say and
how to apply it in the individual case. Both
individual and group modalities are available
for parent skills training and consultation.
Specialized help is available for parents of
developmentally challenged children. |
